  • Provides technical consulting, training and counsel with respect to the design, operation and ongoing regulatory compliance of Taft-Hartley (multi-employer) and single employer benefit plans
  • Conducts and critiques audits of benefit plans for technical completeness, including matters relating to Cafeteria Plans, COBRA, Cal-COBRA and HIPAA
  • Negotiates with the IRS and DOL on adjustments required under self-correction programs
  • Develops and helps establish systems for managing workplace conflict
  • Mediates and performs Early Neutral Evaluations of employee benefit claims and employment disputes
  • Speaks on current developments in employee benefits law and the resolution of workplace conflict

EXPERIENCE 

  • The Segal Company, New York and San Francisco, 1988-2002 Vice-President and Principal
  • National Practice Leader for employee benefit plan compliance audit services
  • Consulted with and counseled multi-employer and corporate clients on the requirements of ERISA and Internal Revenue Code statutes and regulations governing employee benefit plans
  • Developed, marketed and managed a benefit plan compliance service known as “Crosscheck,” pursuant to IRS and ERISA rules governing pension and health and welfare benefit plans
  • Developed annual business plan; attained average annual revenue of $1.2 million; managed a distributed (nationwide) team of eight legal and paralegal professionals who performed plan compliance audits pursuant to IRS and ERISA self-correction programs including EPCRS
  • Critiqued audits performed by team for technical completeness and quality standards; provided marketing, technical and training services (workshops) to consultants and their clients
